Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

The new initiative - named the Space Key - is a work of art that was created in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that is accessable via a QR code. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material which Lamborghini, as part of a research project in 2019 was sent to the International Space Station. After it returned to Earth carbon fiber was fashioned into this distinctive artwork. The physical object has an NFT serial code that links to the digital artwork through a QR code printed on the back.



NFTs, for those who are not familiar are unique identifiers which are stored on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and connected to a digital asset such as a photograph, video, song or other record. This allows owners to ensure authenticity and scarcity as well as trackability of tokens via the internet.

The physical component of Space Key

After numerous social media posts teasing something space-related, the Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible (NFT) tokens through an exclusive initiative dubbed Space Key. Created in collaboration with an unknown artist, the NFT is a collector's item that will be auctioned off in a couple of weeks. The core of the NFT is a piece of high-tech carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of an ongoing research project. Carbon fiber was 3D-printed for the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive, digital artwork via the QR code. Five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that are recorded in distributed ledgers like the Blockchain, and connected to digital assets like images. They're a hot topic among those with more money than sense It was just a matter of time until an automaker decided to cash in on the trend.

Space Key consists of five units. The components were built by using a piece of the carbon fiber composite, which was sent to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will come with an QR code that connects it to a unique digital artwork created by the same artist. The digital artwork

After weeks of social-media posts that hinted at it, luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally announced its first initiative for non-fungible tokens (NFT). The Space Key is a collection of five items that unlocks a unique digital artwork by a yet to be identified artist. The  collectors' piece was created in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to only five units. It will be auctioned soon.

Each Space Key contains a block made of advanced carbon-fire composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a research project for 2019. After returning to Earth the space key was engraved with a QR code that links it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner utilized an inflatable camera equipped with a lens to capture individual images, which were then put together into the final image. The result is a photograph that is completely out of the world. It captures both the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic view of a car rising from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and location of the auction hasn't been revealed yet.

The auction

The auctions are scheduled to take place from February 1 until February 4. The auctions will last for 75 hours and 50 mins - the time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter Lunar orbit. The five NFTs are available for bidding by registering online. Each NFT will be sold separately and the winner will be awarded an artwork created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
